Fairytale Paths without Borders Guide

Fairytale paths without borders - Family trips into nature

Irena Cerar

This is probably the most complete excursion guide to the Slovenian borderlands, richly equipped with photographs that show all the beauty and diversity of the landscapes beyond the border. Bilingual maps with drawn routes of the described excursions contribute to transparency and easier orientation.
The book describes 50 trips, which follow one another from the Gulf of Trieste through the Karst, Resia, Nadi, Ter and Kanal valleys to Carinthia and along the Karavanke to Styria, Porabja and the regions along the Mura River. Border trips to Croatia and Istria, where the author sought and found rich intercultural connections, round off the series of destinations along our border.
The book follows the tried-and-tested Fairy Tale Paths concept and also presents 52 folk tales and tales related to the described places. The stories are illustrated by renowned Slovenian authors of different generations: Marta Bartolj, Nenad Cizl, Bojana Dimitrovski, Milan Erič, Jelka Godec Schmidt and Peter Škerl.
The well-thought-out selection of destinations, which are presented in a knowledgeable and popular way, folk tales and fairy tales, and top-notch illustrations and photography far surpass the design of a classic family excursion guide.

It's about much more. It's about a travelogue and literary journey through the borderlands, which are unfortunately little known among native Slovenians, and through the natural and cultural heritage beyond the border, where we can peacefully go alone or with children.
