What crampons to choose
Here is a short guide on the use of crampons and their intended purposes.
At the Gornik store, we offer crampons from the LACD brand, which allow for worry-free walking on icy sidewalks and nearby hills where there is no risk of slipping. However, these crampons are not suitable for high-altitude mountaineering, and we strongly advise against using them on serious mountain terrain! The crampons are easy to attach to your boots, but you must pay attention to the correct size. An elastic strap ensures additional secure fastening to your boot.
For hiking and mountaineering in high-altitude areas, proper crampons such as the Vasak or Black Diamond Sabretooth are essential. The main difference lies in the design of these crampons, as they are shaped to optimally fit the form of your boot and feature longer spikes under the sole. The longer spikes provide better traction on the surface, while a special anti-snow plate (or antiboot, as we like to call it) prevents snow from accumulating under the boot.
With Black Diamond crampons, we can highlight the stainless steel material, which ensures the crampons will last through many icy adventures without showing signs of wear.
Before deciding to purchase crampons, it is essential to check what kind of boots you have at home, the intended purpose of the crampons, and what activities you plan to undertake in the future. If possible, bring your boots to the store so that, together with the salesperson, you can find the optimal crampons for your needs. When you attach crampons to your boots, the trekking poles are replaced by an ice axe.
