Fairytale Trails of Slovenia 2
The revised and updated edition of the guide, originally published under the title Fairytale Paths to History, contains 50 excursions throughout Slovenia. The author Irena Cerar checked the situation on the ground, changed the route where necessary, while maintaining the essential – landscape and cultural-historical diversity of the destinations. We will visit castles, hillforts, city walls, military forts, old churches and monasteries, mills, Roman monuments and ancient sanctuaries, homesteads and a mine.
The suggested excursions are generally undemanding, from shorter and easier walks to mountain excursions in the mid-mountains, so everyone can find an excursion destination in the guide that suits their experience and desires.
The basis of each described unit is a story from days gone by, a folk tale or legend, and a description of a trip that takes us to the places mentioned in the story.
Comprehensive introductions on the fairy-tale and scientific view of our country's past were contributed by archaeologist Dr. Verena Perko and ethnologist Dr. Monika Kropej Telban.
The book was illustrated by eleven top illustrators, and the excursions are richly equipped with photographs, clear maps, and all the necessary information for preparing and implementing "fairytale routes."
