The three mountains above Pokljuka
We timed it perfectly, as we were completely alone on all three peaks, except on Viševnik, where two hikers passed us. As we observed the peaks ahead and behind us, we marveled at how we managed to pull it off. The most beautiful of the three was MDV, where we did a bit of climbing. The views were fantastic. So was the feeling, but only until just below the summit of VDV. On the descent along the ridge, Pika twisted her ankle.
After she dealt with the discomfort and I bandaged her ankle, we slowly—really slowly—made our way toward the trail to Studorski Pass. “Can you keep going, or should I call someone to pick us up?” I asked. The answer was a firm NO. Her strong will to slowly continue down to the valley overcame the thought of... Maybe she doesn’t like the idea of riding in a helicopter!? After about two hours, we finally reached the road, where I more or less jogged the remaining three kilometers to the car to pick her up.
Thinking we’d given the Bohinj mountain rescuers free afternoon to spend with their families or however they pleased, we drove on to the emergency room in Jesenice.
