Winter vs four season pants
Many of you turn to us during the winter with the question of whether to buy winter pants or year-round pants, or how others solve this issue.
Our advice is as follows: Year-round pants are essentially made from a slightly thicker material that is also suitable for colder days when paired with thin base layers. Exclusively thin summer pants are unsuitable for cold winter days, as they retain no heat and will, unfortunately, be too cold even with thin base layers.
A crucial detail about pants is whether they block wind, as it is well-known that wind cools us down, making us feel colder than usual. The coating on the pants is also important, as it allows them to dry faster, repel water more effectively, and ensures comfortable movement. All of this is made possible by Schoeller material.
With year-round pants, you can tackle winter challenges if you don’t get too cold in winter and tend to overheat quickly during your adventures.
For those of you who feel the cold more, we recommend getting warmer hiking pants for the transitional and winter seasons. These pants are made from winter material that is slightly brushed on the inside. Even better is opting for a piece of softshell material, as it provides better wind protection, higher water repellency, and maximum comfort.
As year-round pants, we recommend the Pelc model, while for pants made from softshell material, the Kusum and Alpinist Pro are excellent choices.
