Required equipment for Via Ferrata
Summer is at its peak, and many of you will venture onto demanding secured mountain routes or even via ferratas.
Here’s a checklist of essential gear to help you conquer these trails safely:
- Climbing Harness & Self-Belay System: Harness + self-belay kit ensure you’re always clipped to the steel cable, preventing falls. We offer two types:
- Sit harnesses (standard)
- Full-body harnesses (recommended for via ferratas with heavy backpacks)
- Critical: A harness without a self-belay kit is useless—and vice versa!
- Helmet: No longer just a trend—it protects against falling rocks and head impacts. Types: hiking, mountaineering, ski touring, and ultralight alpine helmets. Must fit snugly (test with a winter hat!) and have a headlamp attachment.
- Gloves: Shield your hands from blisters, abrasions, and sharp cables.
- First Aid Kit: Never hike without it—accidents don’t take vacations.
- Navigation Tools: A map and compass can save you if you lose the route.
- Footwear: Good shoes are as crucial as your harness and helmet combined! For extreme via ferratas, swap hiking boots for approach shoes or climbing shoes.
Don’t Forget: A well-fitted backpack, Sun protection (glasses, sunscreen), Enough food and water
