Why wear a helmet at all? Many people still wonder why they should wear a helmet today, especially if they’ve been hiking for 10 years and have never needed one.

There are several reasons, and the first is simply that there are more people in our mountains these days. Unfortunately, we’ve noticed that the culture of behavior has drastically declined over the years, and many people don’t realize that their actions could endanger random passersby.

The second reason lies in the structure of our Alps. In our experience, our mountains are becoming more fragile each year, as they are worn down by the passage of time—a natural process.

Mountain animals defend their territory when they feel threatened, and falling rocks can sometimes come from their direction as well.

For the reasons listed above, and for your own safety, a helmet is a welcome, if not almost essential, piece of equipment in the mountains.

We chose the Half Dome helmet because it is universal and fits both the female and male head shapes perfectly. It has a hard outer shell that protects your head from impacts, is fully adjustable, and comes in two sizes and various colors.

One more quick tip: when buying a helmet, it’s highly recommended to try it on with a hat. This ensures that the helmet won’t be too small for you in winter.
