Softshell – A Hybrid Garment

Softshell was a revolutionary piece of clothing over 10 years ago. Today, we can confidently say it still serves its purpose exceptionally well- and our purpose is to present you with a selection of softshells that perform superbly at Gornik.

What’s the key feature of a softshell?
A softshell is an alternative to a windbreaker. It’s highly breathable, offers solid wind protection, and has added water repellency. However, a softshell is not waterproof!

Water repellency is achieved through a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating, free from harmful PFCs, making it environmentally friendly. Over time, this repellency wears off-but it can be reactivated through re-impregnation.

Softshells can be used year-round; you just need to know what purpose it will serve. If you’re looking for wind protection, even a thinner softshell will do the job.

The advantage of a thinner softshell is that it takes up little space and is extremely lightweight. In winter, it’s a good idea to layer it with a warm fleece underneath—like the Jastreb or Orel models.

One of the best things about a softshell is how well it moves with you. Besides being breathable, it also dries very quickly—something windbreakers typically don’t do as well.

Softshells are also more resistant to mechanical damage, as the fabric is softer and harder to tear than a lightweight windbreaker.

It’s a good idea to choose a softshell with a hood that protects you from strong wind. Today’s hoods are adjustable and designed to fit over a helmet as well.

In our women’s collection, we offer the following softshells:
