Cjajnik - a sports via ferrata in the "real mountains"
This time the path led us to the north side of the beautiful long ridge of Košuta. , where Cjajnik is - a sports via ferrata in the "real mountains". It is best to leave the Slovenian border through the Ljubelj border crossing and drive towards the village of Sele - Zell. There we will find a sign for Koscutahaus, which is a mountain hut and also our starting point. The toll for this road is 4€ and we pay it when we return from the tour. We follow the signs for Cjajnik and overcome the altitude meters.
Entry to the via ferrata
Before entering the climbing part of our tour, we will also cross a long scree slope, which takes a lot of strength from many people. The entrance part is varied and quickly shows us whether we are or not. Since it is a sports via ferrata, the via ferrata actually looks for problems, but that was also the purpose of our tour, right?
Once we have warmed up properly, the easier middle part follows before we reach the main steep part. If this part is too difficult, we can also make a detour. However, the detour should not be underestimated! The main part is steep and precise footing and strength in our hands may be a must for us!
Descent into the stump
And when we are elated that we have managed to overcome this difficult place, we may be faced with an even more difficult descent into a stump that does not allow for mistakes. Despite the fact that the grade is easier, do not be surprised, as it requires climbing downwards, which causes problems for many. Perhaps the key part is walking upwards, through the typically crumbling, broken Karavanke world, where it is crucial to check your grip, as a slip or fall could end tragically. When we step onto Užnik, we are greeted by the sun and Slovenia :)
The ridge is beautiful, very exposed at times, the grass in the wet would be a problem, a visit to the Košutnik turn is more than a must, and the via ferrata is a real treat and should not be underestimated.
In the end
If we give an assessment, Cjajnik is suitable for someone who has a lot of experience walking through a broken world for the first time, who is physically and mentally prepared, and above all, who knows how to step on shoes with friction when necessary!
The equipment needed for a day climb must include a climbing harness, self-belay kit, rest, helmet and a backpack of approximately 30L. Shoes must have good soles, as contact with the ground in some places can be life-threatening.
Our suggestions for suitable equipment:
2. Austrialpin helmet
3. Self-protection kit
4. Climbing belt
